    Moraira (Costa Blanca)

Moraira is a very well known for the beauty of its beaches, it is an important tourist spot and for the great quality of their wines. There are many places within Moraira that are well worth taking the effort of visiting at length. A must, is the Church’s slender bell tower (the fortress church of Santa Caterina) which stands at the centre of the urban area, full of small intricacies that cause us to remember its history and past. It was built both for religious reasons as for protection and defence. It dates as far back as the sixteenth century.

Moraira was originally mainly a fishing village, managing much of its transport also by sea. Many of the old fishing huts are the foundations for what is now an important tourist resort.

    Its main places of interest:

    • Ermita Divina Pastora (chapel next to the church)
    • La Cova de Cendres, is a cave you can visit which dates back to the Palaeolithic era with remains of its ancient population.
    • Ermita Sant Vicent Ferrer, chapel constructed in the second half of the eighteenth century; the entire chapel was painted on the inside by artist Don Blai Estruc.Close to the main chapel is a smaller chapel that commemorates the place where Vicente Ferrer (a young man who after the war with a fierce determination of helping others joined the Jesuits, because of their heroic image, wise teachings, ideals and struggles to make the world a better place, abandoning his law studies with the hope of making a difference) said goodbye to the village people. There is inside, a painting representing the historical event.
    • Wallfahrskapelle der Font Santa, yet another chapel dedicated to the memory of Vicente Ferrer.
    • The jury and justice courts, built as the population begun to grow and built in the seventeenth century, it has a solar dial because of its strategic positioning.
    • Morro Castellar and Punta Cap d’Or have remains from the Iberian period, and many others from the Roman and Muslim invasions (ask at local tourism information office).
    • The Beach of the L’Ampolla at the feet of the castle, with beautiful white fine sand and many tourist attractions to keep you busy whilst enjoying the sunshine and sea.
    • Weekly Market, a diversity of objects for sale, from fruit and veg to clothes, pottery and leather bags and purses.
    • Moraira’s Nautical Club and other privately owned water sport companies, offering you diversity of water sports, ranging from windsurfing, sailing, fishing and scuba diving excursions that explore the coastline and its incredible beauty under sea, an experience not to be missed! and for those not so keen on under water activities, there are horse and bicycle trips that follow the pathway walked by hermits, a great way of taking in the beautiful views of the region.

Like all Spanish resorts, diversity of nightclubs, bars, restaurants and loud music that open throughout the summer months, the tourist season begins at the end of May and continues to early September.

    Appeals to:

    • The night lover: music to every taste, dance floors and open bars throughout the night.
    • Sun and sea lovers; sandy beaches and many beach activities to keep you busy throughout the day.
    • City lovers: With its buzzing streets and weekly market there is something for everyone. There are more than 80 restaurants to choose from, and don’t forget the wine and muscatel which add flavour to its already diverse and cosmopolitan culture.
    • Water sport enthusiast: Nautical Club Moraira, one of the best on the Costa Blanca where you can practice every type of water sport, not forgetting the scuba diving excursions.
